Dear Family and Friends,
I can't believe it's September already.
There was a very loud firework that just went off next to our
apartment. I guess people really love Labor Day around here. This
week has been OK. Not much work going on, at least teaching. We've
done a lot of yard work.
Tonight we were invited to go help give
a blessing but, something came up and some members who we were going
to help said not yet. So we went to the church and I went to
institute taught by the senior sister. The young kids know as much
as I do! I wish I had known that when I was 14. Not two years after
I started my mission. But I'm glad I do know it. If I walk away
with just one baptism, I'll have had at least two converts. I do
know this church is true and God loves everyone, even the drunk black
guy who said Jesus isn't white (he might not have been drunk).
I have to be slightly honest with you,
I don't really like it here. My heart isn't in it. I'm in a Spanish
area with a Spanish comp again. I wish I was in Plainview speaking
English. But I know the Lord sent me here for a reason. I just have
to find it.
One of the young men here had surgery
on his feet, so he walks with a cane. I asked what kind of surgery.
He said he has flat feet so he got metal bolts inserted into his
feet! I'm excited because that's what I wanted to do when I get
home! He said it was a great success and he recommends I do it. He
and his mom said I need a pro to do it so they don't mess up. The
guy he used trained with the inventor of this procedure, so he's
good, real good. He's in Brooklyn. Maybe I could do it when I come
back out later. No more orthotics!
We had some familiar faces visit church
today. Two former missionaries who served in this area. Former
Elder Waters and former Sister Bradfield – now Sister Waters! They
served here about a year ago, got married last Wed, and are here
today. It was kinda weird.
Last Sunday we went to the Bradfords
(senior couple) for dinner, it was very good. Homemade bread, rice
and chicken, cheese and broccoli, cookies and ice cream. I like my
district, iffy on the ward/area. Four more weeks . . .
